5 Brands That Make Wendy’s Social Media Seem Dated

Wendy’s has long been the reigning queen, but is she being dethroned?

Wendy’s became a Twitter sensation when, in January of 2017, the fast-food giant clapped back at a Twitter user who attempted to come for the store’s ‘Fresh Never Frozen’ policy. Not yet known for their snappy comebacks, Wendy’s fired back sarcastically claiming they must “had forgotten refrigerators existed.” These 35 characters would launch a wildly sensational online persona — now the pinnacle of Wendy’s social media success.

However, other brands have begun unlocking the secret to social media fame by tapping into the popularity of internet memes and culture. It can be pretty tricky to keep up with the fast-paced world of social media; however, these brands might just give the Comeback Queen of Twitter a run for her money.

5. Bugles — Instagram

@BuglesMemes is the official Instagram account for Bugles. Despite maintaining a smaller following than many of the popular brands at 14.3K followers, the account seems to be impossibly on top of current trends. According to the page, the account is run by none other than a really cool intern. Although I feel as though the intern concept is just a way to better connect with younger consumers, I hope there is a fresh face behind their great content.

4. Discovery — TikTok

In the last year, Discover Channel TikTok account, known simply at @discovery, has created several viral TikTok videos gaining millions of views and praise from TikTokers across the platform. Because of TikTok’s extremely fast-moving trends, it can be difficult for brands to put together content that might become stale within a week or two. However, their content is not only fun to watch, but extremely relevant when it comes to TikTok trends. Many of their most viral TikTok videos earned the top ranking on some of the most widely used sounds on the platform. My personal favorite:

3. Totino’s — Instagram

A personal favorite snack of mine during college, Totino’s pizza rolls have always been a quick, easy fix for hungry stomachs on late nights. Known as @totinos, the brand has taken an interesting approach to their social media persona. As opposed to choosing a relatable Zoomer or a hip Millennial, the account has chosen to brand their identity as “Pete Zaroll” the CEO of pizza rolls. Although this character might seem awfully cheesy and over done, Totino’s does an excellent job of hyping up their products while staying on top of current trends and interacting with other popular brands and users, much like Wendy’s. Overall, they have created a super successful online persona — because I’m really craving some pizza rolls right now.

4. Denny’s — Twitter

Known as @dennysdiner on Twitter, this breakfast brand not only creates content that seems to capture current internet humor, but has also taken the leap into fashion as well. Incorporating merch drops that include oversized pancake lounge slippers and egg hoodies, Denny’s has taken their social media to a whole new level. In fact, the restaurant has become so popular on Twitter, they have even begun to offer up their tweets for sale in order to benefit No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit dedicated to ending childhood hunger in the United States. Everyone loves a brand with a little heart and a whole lot of humor — Denny’s hits the spot in more ways than one.

5. Netflix — Twitter

As the leading streaming service in the U.S., Netflix has a wealth of movies and shows to choose from when creating content for their social media page. It’s no wonder why they have become such a wildly popular brand to follow. Netflix does a great job combining humor with celebrity highlights, and show announcements. Overall, their content is well-balanced and appears to appeal to the broad age demographics the streaming giant serves.
